Coding is a mindset that exposes students to critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving. Not only do students need to dissect the problem they are motivated to come up with the most efficient solution. It’s important for students to develop the patience to unpack a problem and make thoughtful adjustments and methodically test the results of their changes. This is a difficult skill that is important for kids to develop. This course uses a variety of programming activities, some with technology and some without. This class, like all classes at Groove, is meant to help each student discover the beauty in themselves. We will discuss ways that computer programming has helped our community to help get children to connect to their communities and start discussing ways that they can use technology to help make our worlds safer, stronger and more connected. We will also spend some time discussing computer behaviors, how to avoid stranger danger online, best practice skills when researching online, and more!
